Yesterday I mentioned that I had started this bay rum journey based on reading different reviews of different bay rums and also by reading forum posts about which bay rums were the favorites of other shavers out there. Layrite was the last of the batch that I had not heard about previously. So, after yesterday trying out Ogallala, which I considered to be a benchmark bay rum (as right or wrong as that is), I decided to open up the vial of Layrite Hawleywood’s No. 9 Bay Rum Aftershave and give it a whirl.
Well this bay rum was quite similar to Ogallala’s bay rum. The smell of bay oil dives right into your nose and hangs on. It seemed to go on pretty mild and stay cool for a minute or so, but there was no discernable burn.
Overall it was a light, cool, and refreshing aftershave that smelled predominantly of a clovey bay oil fragrance. It did a great job of making my skin feel tighter and smoother as well, closing up the pores. And as I write this, I am enjoying the subtle wafts of the scent that occasionally drift around me. It doesn’t have any moisturizing ingredients, making this a manly alcohol splash with a straight up bay oil scent.
(This review is of a sample decant of the original product, and as such I cannot guarantee that the sample contained the appropriate mixture of the original ingredients.)
